Village History & Growth
Situated in central Marathon County along the Wisconsin River, Rothschild was named after Milwaukee financier AC Rothschild. Incorporated as a village in 1906, Rothschild developed around the paper manufacturing industry and timber resources. Over the decades, the village has transformed into a core commercial hub for the Wausau metropolitan area, seamlessly linking industrial roots with community amenities like the historic Rothschild Pavilion.
